Thermostats, Speakers, and Safety Devices Can Disappear Too

The same principle extends to nearly every other system a home needs to function:

• Thermostats can be specified in flush-mount or minimal designs that read more like a piece of hardware than an appliance stuck to the wall

• Audio can be handled through in-ceiling or in-wall speakers finished flush and paintable to match the surrounding surface, rather than a visible speaker grille breaking up a clean ceiling plane

• Fire sprinklers, required in many new construction and remodel projects, are available in concealed, flush-mount covers that sit nearly invisible until triggered

• Smoke and CO detectors can now be selected in low-profile designs that read as a small, deliberate ceiling detail instead of a plastic disc

• Return air grilles can be integrated into baseboard or toe-kick details rather than placed as a visible wall or floor grille

None of these choices change what the system does. They change whether a homeowner notices it at all.
